HOW IT WORKS
Superhydrophobic nano coating helps prevent moisture and smells from permeating surfaces, reducing the build up of oils and grime.
Directional high velocity air dries the headsets and removes any remaining detritus.
UltraViolet C (medical grade) directional lighting gets into all areas of a device including those unreachable by wipes, where bacteria, virus and fungi live.

Regarding the Coronavirus
UVC light has been repeatedly proven to be effective against all types of bacteria, viruses and fungi. There have been many tests against SARS and MERS which are also coronaviruses, and UVC was proven to be effective against those pathogens.
Cleanbox has been proven effective against the H1N1 (the swine flu) virus, a single-strand RNA virus. UVC is also proven to be effective against bacteria such as C.Diff and MRSA, which are far harder to eliminate than viruses.
What is UVC?
UVC also known as UV-C (UltraViolet C), refers to ultraviolet light with wavelengths between 200 – 280 nanometers (nm). Light in the UVC wavelength can be used for disinfecting water, sterilizing surfaces, destroying harmful microorganisms in food products and in air.
How many times can I run the machine per day?
Assuming that you run a 60-second cleaning cycle every five minutes for eight hours a day, that allows for 96 cycles per machine. The Cleanbox is designed for continuous use.
Is it safe?
The Cleanbox is completely safe and will not harm users. The products are designed to prevent any physical exposure to UVC light. The box prevents UVC from penetrating out and the unit stops working/UVC light turns off if the door is opened.
Does UVC light cause any damage to materials such as lenses, fabrics or electronics?
No. The UVC is a shorter wavelength and has a very different impact on plastics and lenses than UVA or UVB light (the kind you get from the sun). The impact of UVC on plastics, lenses, or the other materials is so negligible that you will see no difference in any factors such as display quality over the lifetime of the device even with regular use.
Does the Cleanbox disinfection process generate any heat?
Cleanbox is a completely no-waste, eco-friendly product that doesn’t use any heat, liquids or chemicals. The primary reason we are able to kill 99.99% of bacteria, virus and fungi is because we utilize medical grade UVC lighting technology, which has been in use in hospital systems for decades (historically with a mercury lamp), and only recently available in LED form.
Does the Cleanbox emit ozone?
No. While UVC mercury bulbs do emit ozone at very low wavelengths (185nM) the
UVC LEDs we utilize operate at 265nM (the sweet spot that affects the largest cross-section of contagions) which don't emit any ozone.
What is the Nanotech coating and what does it do?
We use a textile nanotech superhydrophobic that helps prevent body fluids, including sweat and oils from permeating soft (and hard) surfaces. We recommend using this coating on VR headsets to maximize the efficiency of disinfection and minimize the need for extra wiping.
Should I also use a wipe if using the Cleanbox to disinfect VR headsets?
If the headset is properly treated with nanotech, then wiping with antiseptic or alcohol wipes is not only completely unnecessary but will also remove the nano layer and require you to re-spray. If you see anything sticking to the surfaces, simply use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe it away.
Can I use the Cleanbox to disinfect accessories such as VR controllers?
Our solutions also work for controllers, haptics, mobile phones, tablets, however, in order to achieve the same efficacy, the process is a little more involved. UVC is line-of-sight only. If it can't see the surface, then it can't clean it. Therefore, you'd have to rotate the controllers after a few cycles and do another couple of cycles.
Accessories like controllers would need to be laid on the floor of the CX unit, which is further from the lights, so they would need multiple cleaning cycles to be sure they were being disinfected properly. You can place a small tray on legs inside the CX unit and place controllers and such on it, which will provide a more effective clean as they are closer to the lights.
What is the power draw and what plug does the Cleanbox require?
Cleanbox can use any power source from 100-240V, 50-60Hz, which means they can be plugged into an outlet in any country in the world. You will, however, need an appropriate adapter for non-US plugs.
What does the Cleanbox warranty cover?
Cleanbox products come with a one-year manufacturers' warranty that guarantees against faulty parts or lights. Cleanbox will, therefore, cover at no cost the replacement cost of any parts that are deemed to have been damaged during manufacturing. For ongoing maintenance Cleanbox offers replacement parts at a minimal cost.
